IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES January 3, 1989 Mr. DONNELLY introduced the following bill; which was referred jointly to the Committees on Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce A BILL To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to require payments for physicians' services under the medicare program be made on an assignment-related basis. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. REQUIRING PAYMENTS FOR PHYSICIANS' SERVICES UNDER MEDICARE BE MADE UNDER AN ASSIGNMENT. Section 1832 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395(k)) is amended by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c) and by inserting after subsection (a) the following new subsection: `(b) Payment may be made under subsection (a)(1) for physicians' services (furnished on or after October 1, 1989) only on an assignment-related basis (as defined in section 1842(i)(1)).'
