IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES July 13, 1989 Mr. HOPKINS introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service A BILL To amend title 5, United States Code, to provide that Federal employees who are voluntarily or involuntarily separated from service as a result of the closure or realignment of a military installation under title II of the Defense Authorization Amendments and Base Closure and Realignment Act shall be eligible for early retirement. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 8336(d) of title 5, United States Code, is amended-- (1) by inserting after the first sentence the following: `Notwithstanding the preceding sentence, an employee described in paragraph (1) or (2) of this subsection is entitled to an annuity after becoming 55 years of age and completing 15 years of service, or after becoming 57 years of age and completing 5 years of service, if the employee's separation results from the closure or realignment of a military installation under title II of the Defense Authorization Amendments and Base Closure and Realignment Act, as determined by the Office.'; and (2) in the last sentence, by striking `first sentence' and inserting `first two sentences'.
