bill; which was referred to the Committee on Transportation and
Infrastructure, and in addition to the Committee on Banking and
Financial Services, for a period to be subsequently determined by the
Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall
within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned

A BILL
To amend title IX of the Public Works and Economic Development Act of
1965 to make the development of brownfield sites eligible for
assistance.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 903 of the
Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. 3243) is
amended--
(1) in subsection (a)(1) by inserting after ``business
development,'' the following: ``development of brownfield
sites,''; and
(2) by adding at the end the following:
``(e) Brownfield Site Defined.--In this section, the term
`brownfield site' means a parcel of land that contains or contained
abandoned or under-used commercial or industrial facilities the
expansion or redevelopment of which is complicated by the presence or
potential presence of hazardous substances.''.
