A BILL
To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide penalties for the use
of interstate facilities to target children for sexually explicit
messages or contacts.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Protecting Children From Internet
Predators Act of 1997''.
SEC. 2. USE OF INTERSTATE FACILITIES TO TARGET CHILDREN FOR SEXUALLY
EXPLICIT MESSAGES OR CONTACTS.
(a) Generally.--Chapter 110 of title 18, United States Code, is
amended by adding at the end the following:
``Sec. 2260A. Use of Interstate facilities to target children for
sexually explicit messages or contacts
``Whoever uses any facility in or affecting interstate commerce
(including any computer network or service) to target an individual
under the age of 16 years for sexually explicit messages or contacts
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or
both.''.
(b) Clerical Amendment.--The table of sections at the beginning of
chapter 110 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at
the end the following new item:
``2260A. Use of Interstate facilities to target children for sexually
explicit messages or contacts.''.
