A BILL
To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to
provide that certain employees of Federal, State, and local emergency
management and civil defense agencies may be eligible for certain
public safety officers death benefits, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS DEATH BENEFITS FOR EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT/CIVIL DEFENSE.
Section 1204(7) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act
of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3796b(7)) is amended by striking ``or rescue squad
or ambulance crew'' and inserting ``rescue squad or ambulance crew, or
an employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and employees of
State and local emergency management and civil defense agencies.''
SEC. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.
The amendment made by this Act shall take effect on the date of
enactment of this Act and shall apply only to employees of the Federal
Emergency Management Agency and employees of State and local emergency
management and civil defense agencies who are injured or die in the
line of duty on or after such date.
