A BILL
To require that a semipostal be issued for the benefit of the National
Park Service.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``National Parks Preservation Stamp
Act''.
SEC. 2. SEMIPOSTAL FOR THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE.
(a) In General.--The United States Postal Service shall provide for
the issuance of a semipostal for the National Park Service.
(b) Requirements.--This section shall be carried out in conformance
with section 416 of title 39, United States Code (as added by Public
Law 106-253 (114 Stat. 634)), and all amounts becoming available from
the sale of the semipostal described in subsection (a) shall be
transferred to the National Park Service, in conformance with
applicable provisions of such section 416 (as so added), for the
purpose of reducing the backlog of maintenance projects (including the
preservation and rehabilitation of cultural resources) in the national
parks.
(c) Definitions.--For purposes of this section--
(1) the term ``semipostal'' has the meaning given such term
by such section 416 (as so added); and
(2) any determination of the amounts becoming available
from the sale of the semipostal described in subsection (a)
shall be made in accordance with applicable provisions of such
section 416 (as so added).
(d) Date of Issuance.--The semipostal required under this section
shall be made available to the public beginning not later than July 1,
2001.
