To amend the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act of 1940 to extend
from three months to twelve months the period after release of a member
of the Armed Forces from active duty during which the member is
protected from mortgage foreclosure under that Act.

A BILL
To amend the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act of 1940 to extend
from three months to twelve months the period after release of a member
of the Armed Forces from active duty during which the member is
protected from mortgage foreclosure under that Act.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. EXTENSION OF PERIOD OF MORTGAGE FORECLOSURE PROTECTION UNDER
SOLDIERS' AND SAILORS' CIVIL RELIEF ACT OF 1940.
(a) Extension to 12 Months.--Section 302(3) of the Soldiers' and
Sailors' Civil Relief Act of 1940 (50 U.S.C. App. 532(3)) is amended by
striking ``three months'' and inserting ``twelve months''.
(b) Effective Date.--The amendment made by subsection (a) shall
apply with respect to any person performing a period of military
service (as such term is defined in section 101(2) of such Act (50
U.S.C. App. 511(2))) that begins on or after February 1, 2003.
