_______________________________________________________________________
RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Virginia Fire Chief's Association on the occasion of
its 75th anniversary and commending the Virginia Fire Chief's
Association for sponsoring annually the Mid-Atlantic Expo and
Symposium.
Whereas in 1930 the Virginia Fire Chief's Association, Inc. was organized by a
group of dedicated career and volunteer fire chiefs in the Commonwealth;
Whereas in 1977, members of the Virginia Fire Chief's Association leadership
were appointed to a Legislative Advisory Committee that subsequently
recommended the establishment of the Fire Services Commission which
became the Department of Fire Programs and the Fire Services Board which
has become a vital resource to all Departments both career and
volunteer;
Whereas 2 of the members of the Virginia Fire Chief's Association have been
previously selected as Career Fire Chief of the Year, which is a
nationwide honor;
Whereas the association was an organizing member of the Statewide Mutual Aid
Committee which in turn created the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement which
now encompasses over 95 percent of the localities in the Commonwealth;
Whereas the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement was thoroughly tested during
Hurricane Isabel in September 2003 and the floods in Richmond in August
of 2004;
Whereas Virginia Fire Chief's Association annually sponsors the Mid-Atlantic
Expo and Symposium to provide to attending firefighters from the States
in the mid-Atlantic region, training with the use of case studies like
that of the Virginia Commonwealth University fire in March, 2004,
updates on standards and techniques, and information gathering that will
increase knowledge of fire service personnel in the Commonwealth; and
Whereas the Mid-Atlantic Expo and Symposium presents to such firefighters
workshops on a variety of topics such as the establishing and building
of Fire Departments, and successful fire service recruitment strategies:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives recognizes the Virginia
Fire Chief's Association on the occasion of its 75th anniversary and
commends the Virginia Fire Chief's Association for sponsoring annually
the Mid-Atlantic Expo and Symposium.
