Desalination Research Advancement Act
This bill reauthorizes through FY2026 the Desalination and Water Purification Research Program at the Bureau of Reclamation and increases the amount of funding available to institutions of higher education. The bill also expands the program's research priorities to include minimizing the impacts of seawater desalination on aquatic life and coastal ecosystems.

following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Natural
Resources, and in addition to the Committee on Science, Space, and
Technology, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker,
in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the
jurisdiction of the committee concerned

A BILL
To advance desalination research and technological innovation, and for
other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Desalination Research Advancement
Act''.
SEC. 2. DESALINATION RESEARCH AUTHORIZATION.
(a) Section 8 of the Water Desalination Act of 1996 (42 U.S.C.
10301 note; Public Law 104-298) is amended in subsection (a)--
(1) by striking ``$5,000,000 per year for fiscal years 1997
through 2021'' and inserting ``$20,000,000 per year for fiscal
years 2022 through 2026''; and
(2) by striking ``$1,000,000'' and inserting
``$15,000,000''.
(b) Section 3(e) of the Water Desalination Act of 1996 is amended--
(1) in paragraph (5), by striking ``and'';
(2) in paragraph (6), by striking the period at the end and
inserting ``; and''; and
(3) by adding at the end the following new paragraph:
``(7) to minimize the impacts of seawater desalination on
aquatic life and coastal ecosystems, including technologies to
monitor and reduce those impacts.''.
