Mr. Cleaver (for himself, Mr. Graves of Missouri, Ms. Davids of Kansas,
Mr. Alford, Mr. LaTurner, Mr. Smith of Missouri, Mr. Luetkemeyer, and
Mr. Nunn of Iowa) submitted the following resolution; which was
referred to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability

RESOLUTION
Congratulating the Kansas City Chiefs on their victory in Super Bowl
LVIII.
Whereas, on February 11, 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco
49ers by a score of 25 to 22, winning Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant
Stadium in Las Vegas;
Whereas the Chiefs achieved a Super Bowl victory despite having the toughest
path to get to the Super Bowl in history;
Whereas this is the fourth championship for the Chiefs in franchise history, as
well as the third Super Bowl win for the Chiefs in 5 years;
Whereas the Chiefs are the first NFL repeat champion in 19 years;
Whereas Patrick Lavon Mahomes II was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player for
the third time, one of only three players to win this award at least
three times;
Whereas Andy Reid is now tied for third-most all-time Super Bowl wins as a head
coach;
Whereas the Chiefs went into halftime down by seven and had to rally for the
comeback;
Whereas the Chiefs were mistakenly labeled as the underdog for all 3 games of
the postseason;
Whereas in the first drive Leo Chenal forced a key fumble that was recovered by
George Karlaftis, and then in the fourth quarter blocked an extra point
to keep the game within a field goal;
Whereas Jaylen Watson critically recovered a fumbled punt in the third quarter
which breathed new life into the team;
Whereas Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker broke the record for the longest field
goal made in a Super Bowl in the second half by drilling a 57-yard field
goal to make it a 10-6 game;
Whereas the game ended on a 13-play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass
from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman to end the first enhanced
overtime period in playoff history and only the second overtime in the
history of the Super Bowl;
Whereas this year all-star tight end Travis Kelce surpassed the legendary Jerry
Rice as the all-time leader in postseason receptions with 165;
Whereas Taylor Swift has helped inspire new Chiefs fans and football fans across
the world;
Whereas the Chiefs defense, led by defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo,
performed phenomenally, shutting down a 49ers offense that ranked at or
near the top of the league in every important statistic all season;
Whereas each of the players on the roster deserves recognition, including Nick
Allegretti, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Blake Bell, Nick Bolton, Ekow Boye-
Doe, Isaiah Buggs, Deon Bush, Matt Bushman, Harrison Butker, Mike
Caliendo, Leo Chenal, Cole Christiansen, Jack Cochrane, Chamarri Conner,
Bryan Cook, Mike Danna, Trey Dean, Matt Dickerson, Mike Edwards, Clyde

Whereas the team honored the legacy of Norma Hunt, the matriarch of the Hunt
family and the Chiefs, who had never missed a Super Bowl before her
passing in June;
Whereas the world continues to see why Kansas City has the loudest fans in
football;
Whereas the Kansas City Chiefs continue to be the pride of Missouri and Kansas
by bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy home to the great citizens of
Kansas City; and
Whereas this victory was a powerful moment for the players, coaches, owners, and
staff of the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the fans of the team in the
Kansas City region, the rest of the country, and around the world: Now,
therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives congratulates and
honors the Kansas City Chiefs on their incredible win in Super Bowl
LVIII.
