A BILL
To amend title 49, United States Code, to require continued periodic
reports on highway-rail grade crossing safety, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``State Actions For Employing
Transportation Risk Assessments and Crossing Knowledge Strategies Act''
or the ``SAFE TRACKS Act''.
SEC. 2. REPORTS ON HIGHWAY-RAIL GRADE CROSSING SAFETY.
Section 20167 of title 49, United States Code, is amended--
(1) in subsection (a)--
(A) in paragraph (4) by striking ``and'' at the
end;
(B) by redesignating paragraph (5) as paragraph
(6); and
(C) by inserting after paragraph (4) the following:
``(5) how the State will work with stakeholders, including
railroads operating in and across the State, to reduce
pedestrian fatalities, including suicides, along railroad right
of way, in consultation with mental health and law enforcement
agencies and entities; and''; and
(2) in subsection (b) by inserting ``and every 5 years
thereafter,'' before ``the Administrator of the Federal
Railroad Administration''.
