Directs the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare to designate the search for a cause and prevention of sudden infant death syndrome as one of the top priorities in intramural research efforts and in the awarding of research and research training grants and fellowships; and to encourage researchers to submit proposals for investigations of sudden infant death syndrome.
Provides that the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare shall develop, publish, and distribute literature to be used in educating and counseling coroners, medical examiners, nurses, social workers, and similar personnel, and parents, future parents, and families whose children die, to the nature of sudden infant death syndrome and to the needs of families affected by it.
