Athletic Safety Act - Directs the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare to make a study to determine for the 12-month period beginning 60 days after enactment of this Act: (1) the number of athletic injuries and deaths occurring in athletic competition and in practice sessions; (2) the number of athletic injuries and deaths occurring: (a) at each school with an athletic trainer, who is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association; and (b) at each school with an athletic trainer who is not certified; (3) the number of schools which have a certified trainer; (4) the number of schools which have student and nonstudent noncertified trainers; (5) the period of time required before a certified trainer could reasonably be available for all of the schools which have only a noncertified trainer; (6) the estimated cost to the schools for having a certified trainer; and (7) appropriate certification procedures for athletic trainers for schools.
Directs the Secretaty to request each school to maintain appropriate records to enable it to compile information under this Act. Requires the Secretaty to make a report to Congress on the study required by this Act.
