Free Political Broadcasting Act of 1979 - Amends the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require each radio and television station licensed under the Communications Act of 1934 to provide free broadcast time to any eligible candidate in any election for Federal office.
Provides that any candidate of major party, third party, or minor party shall be eligible, upon certification, to receive free broadcast time under this Act. Sets forth the requirements and procedures for certification.
Sets forth allotments of broadcast time designated for candidates for various Federal offices.
States that the "equal time" provisions of the Communications Act of 1934 shall not apply in the case of the use of radio and television facilities for free broadcast time under this Act.
