Arms Transportation Security Act of 1979 - Directs the Secretary of Transportation, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Treasury, to conduct a study of: (1) the prevalent causes of losses of firearms, ammunition, and explosives (including the components thereof) being transported in interstate commerce by private persons or government agencies; (2) the standards of security necessary to provide adequate protection from losses of such items; and (3) the appropriate measures necessary to achieve such standards.
Directs the Secretary to report to the Congress within one year regarding the results of such study.
