Vietnam Veterans Federal Employment Act - Authorizes the Director of a government agency to make an excepted appointment, to be known as a Vietnam veterans appointment, to any position in the competitive civil service, up to and including GS-6, or the equivalent thereof, of a veteran or disabled veteran who served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States during the Vietnam era, and is found qualified to perform the duties of the position.
Requires an employee given such an appointment to serve subject to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties and participation in the training or educational program to which he may be appointed.
Provides that an employee who completes the training or educational program or who has satisfactorily completed one year of substantially continuous service under a Vietnam veterans appointment shall be converted to career-conditional or career employment.
Prohibits, in the selection of an applicant for appointment under the provisions of this Act, discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or political affiliation.
Limits eligibility for appointment under this Act to a period within two years of separation from the Armed Forces.
